I installed a cyrillic font called ER Kurier 1251, but it works for English characters only. Some other font is used to display Russian characters, as if Mac OS X didn't find them in this font. Although, when I browse this font in Font Book, Russian letters are there! Can anybody make it work?
Anton ---- Here's the link to the font: (I used the free Unarchiever utility to unpack it, because the Mac OS's standard utility didn't extract them correctly. I installed a cyrillic font called ER Kurier 1251, but it works for English characters only. Why exactly do you need such a font? OS X is designed to use Unicode fonts and those with legacy encodings often will not work right. Fonts and keyboards needed for Russian are installed by default, and you can switch encodings if you need to via the menus for that in TextEdit, Mail, Safari, etc. Do you perhaps need to read some old non-Unicode Word document? Sometimes selecting a font with CY after the name will handle that.

And on MacOS X I couldn't find a monospace serif Cyrillic font except Courier New, which is not comfortable due to its thin-ness. Now I use Lucida Console, but I don't like it. A great solution would be converting some of my favourite Windows TTF (and non-Unicode) fonts so that Mac OS would recognize them right.
Jan 12, 2009 2:01 PM. That doesn't seem to help. I already have Russian (Cyrillic Mac)keyboard layout, which came with Mac OS X. Now I have downloaded ER Kurier Mac (which is in Mac Cyrillic encoding). Modio 3 Game Tuts Ps3. Still not working. The keyboard layouts that Apple provides with OS X are Unicode only. To type with a font in a legacy encoding you must install something else which maps the character codes 128-255 (hex 80-FF) used for Cyrillic in the legacy charset to the normal keys.
